IFMA GHANA CONFERENCE RECAP – MIKE MAFA, ET SFP 2021 AWARDEE
IFMA GLOBAL AFRICA CONFERENCE ACCRA GHANA AUGUST 01-02, 2024
About three (3) weeks ago, the first ever IFMA Global conference for the African FM community came off in Accra, Ghana and it was an honor to be a part of it. The euphoria still resonates with me as if it was yesterday. The conference summarized IFMA’s dynamism for learning, networking and growth. The energy, enthusiasm and dedication shown by attendees and speakers alike was highly phenomenal and nothing short of absolute professionalism.
Relevant topics relating to sustainability, circular economy, emerging trends, resilience in FM, human centered, leadership & strategy, outcome base cleaning, green buildings, ESG, IOT, cybersecurity among others were addressed. These are very vital topics with great impact on the FM industry.
The experience was truly remarkable. I gained insights on the status of FM, its impact on industry, people and the environment and also discovered emerging trends in the FM industry. More so, as one of the planners of the global conference in Ghana, I have gained enormous experience in the organization of such conference especially being a first timer.
The exposure undoubtedly has fortified me with a better and a more comprehensive perspective on the tenets of facility management.
Thinking back of the fantastic people I had the opportunity of meeting and having the niche to network, I am elated. The collaborations were enormous and thrilling. I have high hopes looking into the future of the FM industry, especially on the African continent. The rich insights exhibited by the vibrant African FM professionals cannot be underrated. The event was enriching and transformative and I look forward to partaking more of such conferences.
The take home for me was: “Strive for impact rather than outcomes, so that the outcome can lead to impact.”
This has been an experience that I am going to remember for long time and I take this opportunity to encourage other people, especially young FM professionals to participate in such high professional endeavors as it equips one for further growth and development. Congratulations and cheers to the IFMA Ghana chapter and Africa FM community at large. I am super proud to belong to IFMA.
